Cats and the Desolate Retreat

I wouldn’t say: Cats matter

But cats can ward off evil spirits

Ghosts with soft bones are the most despicable

Reeking of a fishy smell

they have guerrilla warfare with me nightly in the mirror

and appear in all kinds of news reports

speaking shit

I wouldn’t say: Cats are clever

But melancholy makes their bright demeanour

seem to stand aloof from worldly pursuit

ones of great depth

Planning is futile.

Your lazy glance can also be called a gaze

gazing at those corners of flying breezes

Only you look down on

the wings caught in spider webs

and the hair cut off when you dodged the knife

In my memory, Mother was gentle too

Holding a knife she did want to take your life

If only she had been as brisk as you

If only, same as you

she had treated the world as a still life

I thought death was a skinny cat

leaving a tuft of hair

The next day you padded slowly to the bowl again

to eat the fish Mother killed for you

Not all empty stuff

drifts

Your room brims with sunlight

The crystal in your eyes

is clearer than diamond

Some winds hastily jump

Some sort of lingering makes you akin to a tick

And the anchors that have nothing to do with each other

when sleep finally falls

will arrive too

at our desolate retreat which has drifted far away
